Description
Change doesn’t come easy to New Orleans’ historic restaurants, but in 2009, the oldest of the grand dames – Antoine’s – broke one of its longstanding traditions with the opening of the Hermes Bar inside the former Hermes dining room. Prior to 2009, there was never a formal bar inside the 170-year-old restaurant.
The upscale bar is casual by classic Antoine’s standards, but it offers an opportunity to experience the legendary restaurant without putting as much of a dent in your wallet. Along with famous New Orleans cocktails and a wine list that dips into the restaurant’s legendary wine cellar, the bar serves a limited menu of Antoine’s favorites turned snacky, like fried eggplant sticks with Hollandaise, oysters Rockefeller, and a po-boy version of the famous Oysters Foch (fried oysters with pate and Colbert sauce).
Friday and Saturday nights, look for live music featuring local artists like crooner Luke Winslow King, contemporary jazz chanteuse Sasha Masakowski and New Orleans jazz singer Ingrid Lucia.
