Description
This crystalline glass and steel structure in the Garden District has lived several lives, first as a restaurant inside the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The architectural gem was removed from the Eiffel tower and, after a series of business deals and barters over a period of years, the building landed in New Orleans and was reconstructed on a busy stretch of St. Charles Avenue in the Lower Garden District. Over the years the structure has been reincarnated as a restaurant and a nightclub, but in 2010 the building morphed into Eiffel Society, an experimental gallery/restaurant/bar/urban garden.
The multiuse space is still finding its legs and has already switched gears since its ambitious opening in the fall of 2010. Iris chef Ian Schnoebelen, who created Eiffel Society's opening menu, and local mixologist Alan Walter, who launched the bar's craft cocktail menu and worked the bar for several months, are no longer on board. (Walter is now "creative director" at Loa, the lounge inside International House Hotel.) Eiffel Society is now primarily a lounge/nightclub (albeit one designed around the intriguing contemporary art installations) open Friday and Saturday with DJs and other live entertainment, plus Wednesday Salsa night lessons and dancing (check their website for the schedule). A limited, eclectic small plates selection (think: Korean short rib pho, skinny, double-fried fries) based on the opening menu is available along with craft cocktails at the bar. Weeknights, Eiffel Society is available for booking private and public special events. --CR
